About Carmen Cantrell
Carmen Cantrell MacKay began her academic life far from the law. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Apparel Merchandising, with a minor in business, from Auburn University in 2017. The merchandising curriculum taught her about attention to detail, supply chains and client-facing work. A few years later she pivoted to legal studies and completed a Juris Doctor at the University of Alabama School of Law in 2020.
Her move into law tightened skills she had already been building: an eye for patterns, an ability to manage complex information and a habit of clear written communication. Those traits translated to her legal training, where coursework and clinic work exposed her to the mechanics of litigation, research and client counseling. She took the standard path from law school into practice and is admitted to the Alabama bar.
Early in her career she worked in roles that required frequent contact with clients and other professionals. Colleagues note she approaches problems methodically and prefers to break issues into manageable parts. She has handled matters across different areas, gaining practical courtroom and transactional experience. She has also continued to draw on the organizational and interpersonal skills she developed during her undergraduate years.
In 2026 she operates under the name Carmen MacKay Law. The firm provides local counsel and direct representation for clients in Alabama. She runs a lean practice and tends to take a hands-on approach to the matters she accepts. Clients encounter a lawyer who manages deadlines closely, drafts documents herself and remains personally involved in negotiations and hearings.
Outside of day-to-day practice she maintains memberships in professional organizations. Those affiliations keep her connected to evolving practice rules and local bar activities. She has participated in continuing legal education programs and attends state bar events to stay current on procedural and substantive developments.
MacKay’s background bridges a nonlegal undergraduate major and a more conventional legal education. That mix shows in how she organizes files and explains options to clients. She now practices at Carmen MacKay Law, handling legal matters for individuals and businesses in Alabama.
