About Justin C.
Justin C. Owen built his legal foundation at the University of Virginia, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature in 2004. He went on to earn his law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2009. Those years shaped his approach to writing, analysis and courtroom argument.
He began his professional career soon after law school. In 2010 he joined Waldrep, Stewart & Kendrick, LLC as an associate. The next turn came quickly. In 2012 he became a partner at Goldasich, Vick & Fulk, stepping into a role that expanded his litigation responsibilities and client work. A decade later he moved to a leadership role at Bodewell, becoming a partner in 2022.
Owen’s career tracks a steady progression through civil litigation and appellate practice. Early work at a regional defense and plaintiff firm gave him courtroom time and case management experience. As a partner he took on greater responsibility for case strategy, drafting appellate briefs and overseeing trial preparations. His role as Co-Chair of the Amicus Curiae/Appellate Committee for the Alabama Association for Justice reflects that appellate emphasis. He has also held membership in the Litigation Counsel of America since 2017, a peer organization that brings together litigators from across the country.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in litigation and precise in briefing. He spends a lot of his time on appeals and amicus work, preparing arguments that a court of appeals or a supreme court might review. That appellate practice is complemented by trial work at firms that represent injured clients, which has kept him engaged on both fronts: trials in the lower courts and legal questions before higher tribunals.
Outside courtrooms, Owen’s committee work involves drafting amicus briefs and coordinating appellate strategy for a statewide bar association. That role requires both legal writing and consensus-building among attorneys who may not always agree. It also places him at the intersection of trial practice and appellate procedure.
Today he serves as a partner at Bodewell, LLP, practicing in Alabama. He divides his time between appellate filings and litigation for clients in injury matters, while continuing to participate in statewide professional committees on appellate and amicus issues.
