About Rabih

Rabih Hamawi earned an M.S. in Finance from Walsh College in 2005 and a J.D. from Western Michigan University in 2014. He taught briefly as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Phoenix in 2010. Those early steps set the tone for a career that combines legal training and insurance industry knowledge.

He began legal practice on the appellate side. In 2013 he worked as a law clerk in the appellate department at Collins Einhorn Farrell. In 2014 he served as a legal intern at the United States Lawyer's Office. He joined Fabian, Sklar and King, P.C. in 2016 and opened his own firm, the Law Office of Rabih Hamawi, P.C., in 2017.

Hamawi holds several insurance and risk credentials that are uncommon among general litigation practitioners. He is a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), a Certified Insurance Consultant (CIC), a Certified Risk Manager (CRM) and a Life Insurance Counselor and Multiple Lines Property and Casualty Insurance Counselor under the Michigan Office of Insurance and Financial Services. Those certifications inform how he approaches policy interpretation and coverage disputes.

He is admitted to practice in Michigan and in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan. That combination of state and federal admission mirrors the mix of matters he handles. His early appellate experience continues to influence his litigation strategy in trial and post-trial settings.

Professional activity has been a steady part of his practice. Since 2017 he has served as Vice Chair of the Property Insurance Law Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section. He has been a member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Insurance and Indemnity Law Section since 2016 and chaired that section beginning in 2021. He also participates in local Inns of Court programs in Oakland County and the Detroit metropolitan area. Other affiliations include the Michigan Association of Justice, the International Institute of Risk Managers and the ICLE New Lawyers Advisory Board.

Colleagues and opponents encounter an attorney who blends insurance industry credentials with courtroom experience. His work spans policy interpretation, indemnity questions and insurance-related coverage litigation. He runs his own practice from his firm and appears regularly in both state and federal courts. He currently concentrates his practice on insurance and indemnity matters, civil litigation and appellate work.
