About Philip

Philip Sieff built his path to the courtroom through steady study and long practice. He earned his undergraduate degree at Cornell College and completed his Juris Doctor at Hamline University Law School in 1985. He entered practice after law school and later took on work in federal courts across several districts.

Sieff is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri and the U.S. District Court for Minnesota. Those admissions have shaped the kinds of matters he handles. He appears regularly in federal dockets and prepares cases for trial when they move beyond pretrial stages.

Colleagues describe Sieff as steady and concise at the trial table. He has developed experience in courtroom procedure, motion practice and evidentiary work. He spends time drafting dispositive motions and arguing evidentiary disputes, and he prepares witnesses for the rigors of testimony. His courtroom work is practical. It is aimed at resolving contested issues through motion practice and trial rather than through lengthy theoretical exposition.

Outside the courtroom, Sieff engages with professional groups that reflect his interests in trial law and professional standards. He is a current member of the Trial Law Institute and the Diversity Law Institute. He also serves as a barrister in the Order of Veritas. Those affiliations keep him connected to peers and to ongoing developments in trial advocacy and professional conduct.

His career has included service at Robins Kaplan LLP. At the firm he has taken on federal litigation and trial assignments. He works with clients and co-counsel to prepare cases for all phases of federal court, from initial filing through trial. He also handles the procedural and strategic elements that accompany contested federal matters.

Sieff’s background combines formal legal training with sustained courtroom exposure and professional association activity. He continues to practice at Robins Kaplan LLP, concentrating on federal litigation and trial matters.
