About Pete

Pete Castleberry earned his bachelor’s degree in 2007 from the University of Colorado Boulder, where he studied philosophy and psychology. He went on to attend Lewis & Clark Law School, completing his J.D. in 2010 after beginning law studies in 2007. Those academic years set the foundation for a legal career that has ranged from public defense work to private practice.

While still in law school, Castleberry gained hands-on experience in public defense. In 2008 he served as a law clerk with the Federal Public Defender, working on research and case preparation in federal matters. The following year he spent time as a legal intern at the Metropolitan Public Defender. Those early roles exposed him to trial preparation, client interviewing, and the day-to-day pressures of criminal defense work.

After graduating and entering practice, Castleberry joined Castleberry & Elison, P.C. as a lawyer in 2010. His work at the firm built on the skills he developed in public defender settings. He moved from intern and clerk positions into courtroom and client-facing roles. The transition shows a steady progression from supervised training to independent practice.

Castleberry is licensed to practice in Oregon. His background includes both federal and local public defender work, and that experience informs how he approaches cases in private practice. He is known among peers for steady attention to procedural detail and for preparing records and motions carefully. Colleagues note that his courtroom experience began early and continued as he took on matters at Castleberry & Elison, P.C.

Outside of court filings and hearings, his education in philosophy and psychology provides a framework for assessing testimony and evaluating witness credibility. Those undergraduate disciplines also shape how he interviews clients and crafts narratives for judges and juries. He has applied those interdisciplinary skills to case strategy and legal writing throughout his career.

Castleberry continues to practice law in Oregon. His current work is informed by his years with federal and metropolitan public defenders and by his practice at Castleberry & Elison, P.C., and he currently practices in Oregon, handling matters shaped by his public defender experience.
