About Hershall

Hershall Brown began his professional life far from a courtroom. He trained as a teacher of chemistry and spent his early academic years studying the sciences. That background left him comfortable with technical detail and methodical thinking, skills he later brought into legal study and practice. He earned a B.A. in Chemistry Education from Arizona State University in 1997 and returned to school to study law, receiving his J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2015.

After law school he moved into private practice. In 2016 he opened the Law Office of Hershall Brown LLC and served as lawyer and principal. The firm’s formation marked a shift from employee to owner, and it put him in charge of case selection, client intake and courtroom strategy. He has maintained an office presence at Lex Cura Law while continuing to operate his own practice.

Brown is admitted to practice in Oregon. He holds active memberships in several professional organizations, including the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association. Those memberships signal where he spends much of his professional time and the networks he relies upon for trial work, case law updates and collegial exchange.

His courtroom work reflects the associations he belongs to. He has handled criminal defense matters and contested civil disputes, regularly preparing for jury trials and hearings. Colleagues describe him as methodical; he emphasizes preparation and evidence. He approaches cases by breaking complex factual problems into manageable pieces and testing them through discovery and motion practice.

Clients who come to Brown can expect direct communication about strategy and procedure. He balances the demands of trial preparation with efforts to resolve cases where appropriate. In the office he manages intake and case administration, and he drafts pleadings, motions and trial materials himself when cases require it.

Today he practices out of his firm and keeps an office at Lex Cura Law. He continues to be active in the state’s trial and criminal defense bar and represents clients in criminal defense and civil trial matters.
