About Paul H.
Paul H. Townsend built his legal foundation at Albright College, where he earned a B.A. in political science in 1980. He continued his studies at Ohio Northern University and received his J.D. in 1984. His legal education included concentrated coursework in family law, laying the groundwork for a career centered on matrimonial matters.
Townsend began practicing law in the late 1980s and spent his early years in a series of associate and lawyer positions. He worked as an associate for James P. Yudes in 1989 and was a lawyer at Thatcher & Lanza in 1990. By 1992 he had moved to Hannoch Weisman, P.C. as a senior associate. Over the next decade he transitioned into partnership roles, joining Hartlaub, Dotten, Terry & Townsend, PC as a partner in 1996. He became a partner at Cutler Simeone Townsend Tomaio and Newmark in 2000 and later continued as a partner when the firm reorganized, serving as a partner of Townsend, Tomaio & Newmark, L.L.C. from 2008 onward.
Teaching has been part of Townsend’s professional life. In 1997 he lectured at Seton Hall University and in 2000 he served as a lecturer for the Institute for Continuing Legal Education. Those roles have kept him engaged with developments in family law and provided a forum to address practical issues faced by practicing attorneys.
Court admissions and certification are notable elements of his profile. Townsend is admitted to the bar of New Jersey and to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. He also holds certification from the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Certified Matrimonial Law Lawyer, an acknowledgement that speaks to a specific credentialing process for practitioners in that area.
His professional affiliations include membership in the Morris County Bar Association since 2000, a fellowship in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in good standing since 2013, and membership in the American Society of Legal Advocates since 2015. Earlier in his career he was active in county bar associations in Somerset and Union counties during the 1990s.
Colleagues and clients have turned to Townsend for handling contested divorces, equitable distribution, custody disputes, and related family law litigation. He appears in state and federal courts when cases require it. He practices matrimonial law at Townsend, Tomaio & Newmark, L.L.C., representing clients in divorce and related family law matters.
