About Jessica S.

Jessica S. Swenson is a New Jersey lawyer who has spent her career in family law and dispute resolution. She earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Rutgers University in 2004 and received her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2007. Early on she worked in the New Jersey State Judiciary as a law clerk, an experience that introduced her to courtroom procedure and case management.

After completing her clerkship in 2007, Swenson entered private practice. She spent several years at Fox & Fox LLP beginning in 2008 and moved on to Cipriano Law Offices, P.C. in 2011. In 2018 she became a partner at Townsend, Tomaio & Newmark, L.L.C. Her path through different firms exposed her to a range of family law matters and alternative dispute resolution processes.

Swenson is admitted to practice in New Jersey. She has trained in collaborative law and is an approved Family Law Mediator under Rule 1:40-1. Those credentials shape how she approaches cases. She handles contested matters that require litigation skills, and she also works on negotiated resolutions when parties prefer mediation or collaborative methods. Colleagues describe her as practical in the courtroom and methodical in settlement discussions.

Her professional affiliations include the Bergen County Bar Association, the West Essex Business Partnership and the Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project. She participates in local bar activities and in community-oriented legal work that addresses family safety and access to counsel. Her mediation certification and collaborative training allow her to offer clients options beyond traditional adversarial litigation.

At Townsend, Tomaio & Newmark, L.L.C., Swenson carries a caseload that spans divorce, custody disputes, support matters and post-judgment enforcement. She works with clients on both short-term urgencies and long-term parenting plans, and she appears in county family courts when necessary. Her practice balances courtroom advocacy and out-of-court problem solving depending on what each case calls for.

She remains active in professional circles in New Jersey and continues to refine her mediation and collaborative practice skills. Her current practice centers on family law, mediation and collaborative law matters.
