About Paul F.

Paul F. Shoemaker earned his law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1984 after completing a bachelor’s degree in marketing at the same university in 1981. He studied litigation at law school and left with a clear interest in courtroom work. Those academic years set the stage for a career spent largely in civil litigation and appellate practice.

He began practicing after law school and has worked in private practice for decades. Over the years he has handled both trial and appellate matters. His training in litigation carried over into courtroom practice, and he has pursued cases in state and federal forums. He maintains a practical approach to litigation, emphasizing preparation and clarity in presenting evidence and legal arguments.

Shoemaker is admitted to practice in Minnesota. He is also admitted to the Eighth Circuit and to the U.S. Supreme Court, credentials that allow him to move between trial courts and higher appellate tribunals when cases require it. Those admissions reflect an ability to work on appeals as well as initial trials. He has experience preparing appellate briefs and arguing legal issues framed by trial records.

Colleagues and clients have described him as steady in the courtroom and careful in drafting. He tends to favor direct, plainspoken advocacy over ornate argument. He approaches each matter by breaking down complex facts into manageable parts and isolating the legal questions that matter for a judge or jury.

Throughout his career he has remained based in Minnesota. His work covers a range of civil disputes rather than a single narrow specialty. He handles litigation tasks typical of a general civil practice: pretrial motion work, discovery disputes, trial preparation, and appellate filings. He also navigates procedural issues that arise when cases cross state and federal lines.

He practices law at Shoemaker & Shoemaker, PLC. The firm provides the administrative base for his courtroom work and appellate filings. He continues to accept matters that require both trial-level advocacy and appellate review.

He currently practices at Shoemaker & Shoemaker, PLC, where his work centers on civil litigation and appellate matters.
