About Paul E.
Paul E. Bucher took a traditional path into law. He earned a B.S. in Social Welfare from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in 1977. He then completed his J.D. at Marquette University Law School in 1981. The early academic record reflects an interest in public service and the practical side of law.
Bucher moved quickly into roles that combined law and government. In 1983 he served as Executive Assistant and Legal Counsel to the Wisconsin State Senate. The work placed him at the intersection of legislation and legal analysis. That same year he joined the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney, beginning a period of hands-on prosecutorial work.
He remained at the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office and advanced to the position of District Attorney in 1988. Those years in the prosecutor’s office shaped his courtroom experience. He handled the demands of trials, case preparation, and the procedural complexities that come with public prosecutions. His calendar reflected both misdemeanor and felony dockets and the unpredictable tempo of county-level criminal practice.
Outside the courtroom he took on leadership roles in the legal community. He served two terms as president of the Wisconsin District Attorneys Association, a post that put him in contact with prosecutors across the state and required organizational as well as legal work. He is also involved with the United Way of Waukesha County, which ties his professional life back to local civic engagement.
At a point in his career he moved back into private practice and now operates through Bucher Law Group, LLC. In private practice he draws on decades of experience in public-sector law. Colleagues and clients find that his prosecutorial background informs how he approaches investigations, evidence, and plea negotiations. He often handles matters that benefit from a deep understanding of how government lawyers think and operate.
Bucher's career spans public office, legislative counsel, association leadership, and private practice. He has kept a steady presence in Wisconsin’s legal circles over a long stretch of years. Today he continues to represent clients out of Bucher Law Group, LLC. His current practice concentrates on criminal matters and issues that arise from his years of public-sector legal work.
