About Ronald J.
Ronald J. Sonderhouse earned his law degree and a master's in business administration from the University of Detroit Mercy in 1990. He had previously completed a bachelor’s degree in business at Michigan State University in 1987. The combination of law and business training shaped the early contours of his career and informed his later practice decisions.
He began practicing law in the early 1990s. In 1991 he joined Allegan Law Offices as a lawyer. The work there gave him courtroom exposure and client-facing experience. By 1999 he was practicing with Kay & Kay Law Office, where he continued to develop practical skills in litigation and counsel.
Sonderhouse moved into firm leadership in the late 2000s. In 2008 he became managing partner at Bucher, Wolff & Sonderhouse, LLP. He has remained at that firm in a leadership role while handling a caseload at the same time. His career also includes time spent serving the courts. In 2010 he served as a supplemental court commissioner for the Honorable Linda M. Van De Water. In 2015 he served as a commissioner for Judge Bugenhagen. Those positions involved handling delegated judicial matters and assisting in the administration of court business.
He is admitted to practice in Michigan and Wisconsin and is also licensed before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Michigan and the Eastern District of Wisconsin. That mix of state and federal admissions means he regularly appears in both trial-level state courts and federal district court settings.
Outside the courtroom, Sonderhouse participates in bar activities. He has been involved with the Waukesha County Bar Association since 1999 and has held the office of President Elect in that organization. He maintains ties to the local legal community and participates in the professional networks that support practice in his jurisdictions.
Today he practices at Bucher, Wolff & Sonderhouse, LLP, where he handles matters brought in state and federal courts across Michigan and Wisconsin. He continues to combine courtroom work, firm management, and service to the judiciary in his current practice.
