About Nicholas N

Nicholas N Sperling earned his J.D. from Hamline University School of Law in 2010. He completed his legal studies after a concentrated period at Hamline, where classroom work and clinical opportunities prepared him for courtroom practice. He emerged from law school ready to take on litigation and appellate matters that cross state lines and federal circuits.

Early in his career, Sperling became active in professional organizations, joining several bar and legal associations beginning in 2010 and 2011. Those memberships provided regular contact with colleagues and judges and offered a steady stream of continuing legal education. He used those opportunities to build a practical understanding of procedure and appellate advocacy, and to stay current on changes in federal and state rules.

Sperling is admitted to practice in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and he is also admitted to the Seventh and Eighth U.S. Courts of Appeals. That mix of state and federal credentials shapes the kinds of matters he handles. He appears in state trial courts and files briefs in appellate courts. The admissions reflect a practice that moves between trial litigation and appellate briefing, depending on what a client’s case requires.

His professional path has taken him to Trepanier MacGillis Battina PA, where he is a member of the firm’s attorney team. At the firm he works with colleagues on cases that require coordinated strategy from trial-level filings through potential appeals. Colleagues describe his approach as detail-oriented and methodical; he prepares records and arguments that speak to judges and opposing counsel in precise terms rather than broad rhetoric.

Outside of courtroom appearances, Sperling allocates time to legal research and writing. He spends long hours drafting pleadings, motions, and appellate briefs, and he budgets time for client meetings so that strategy reflects practical concerns as well as legal theory. His work often intersects with procedural issues and federal appellate standards, given his admissions to two circuits.

He maintains an active practice at Trepanier MacGillis Battina PA, handling matters in Minnesota and Wisconsin and representing clients in the Seventh and Eighth Circuits. His current practice focuses on representing clients in state and federal court, including appellate matters.
