About Nathan John
Nathan John Cuoio built a steady legal path through internships and court externships before settling into practice. He earned a B.A. in Spanish from Idaho State University in 2007 and completed his J.D. at the University of Idaho College of Law in 2013.
Early in law school he sought hands-on courtroom exposure. In 2011 he worked as a legal extern with the Federal Defenders of Idaho. The following year he served as an extern clerk for the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho under Judge B. Lynn Winmill. That same year he gained experience on the prosecution side as a prosecuting intern with the Boise City Lawyers Office. He also spent time as a senate intern with the Idaho State Legislature near the close of his law studies.
Those internships and clerkships gave him practical experience on both sides of criminal matters and a close look at federal and state procedure. After passing the bar, he joined Merrill & Merrill, Chtd. as an attorney in 2013. He has worked there since, handling matters that arise in state and federal venues.
Cuoio holds membership in several professional organizations. He joined the Idaho State Bar in 2013 and the Wyoming State Bar in 2014, and maintains both memberships. He is a member of the American Bar Association and has served on the board of the Latino Economic and Development Center since 2014. These roles have kept him connected to developments in both states and to community organizations that intersect with legal practice.
Colleagues describe him as practical and composed in the courtroom and at the negotiating table. He has experience that spans public-sector internships, a federal clerkship and private practice. Those experiences inform how he approaches cases and clients. He is comfortable handling litigation and advisory matters that require attention to procedural detail and factual development.
Today he practices at Merrill & Merrill, Chtd., where he is admitted to practice in Idaho and Wyoming. His work involves representing clients in matters that arise under state and federal law, and he continues to maintain active participation in bar associations and community boards related to legal and economic development.
