About Mr. Russell D.
Mr. Russell D. Hilton built his legal foundation at Mississippi College School of Law, earning his J.D. in 2005. He completed his legal studies after an academic run that concluded in the early 2000s and moved quickly into public service in South Carolina. The law degree set the stage for a career split between government work and private practice.
His first post after law school was as an Assistant Solicitor in the First Circuit Solicitor's Office beginning in 2005. He spent those years inside the courthouse and the solicitor's office, handling the daily responsibilities that come with public prosecution and courtroom work. That early legal work gave him regular courtroom exposure and a practical grounding in trial procedure.
In 2013 he opened his own practice, forming Russell D. Hilton, Lawyer at Law, LLC. Running a small firm changed the day-to-day rhythm of his work. He moved from a government role to managing client files, courtroom appearances, and the administrative duties that accompany ownership of a law office. Over time the firm became the primary vehicle for his legal practice.
Mr. Hilton has been active in local bar organizations throughout his career. He has held membership in the Dorchester County Bar Association since 2005 and served as its president from 2016 to 2017. He is also a member of the Berkeley County Bar Association, a relationship he began in 2013 and maintains today. Those affiliations keep him engaged with peers across the region and connected to developments in South Carolina law.
Outside the courthouse he has pursued interests beyond the legal profession. He holds a Private Pilot certificate issued by the FAA. That credential speaks to another set of skills and certifications, and it is a recurring part of how he describes his life beyond law practice.
Across more than a decade in South Carolina, Mr. Hilton has combined public service and private practice. He remains licensed in South Carolina and continues to handle matters through his firm. He now runs Russell D. Hilton, Lawyer at Law, LLC, providing legal services to clients across South Carolina.
