About Mr. Peter James
Mr. Peter James Carman practices law in Wisconsin and before federal courts. He earned a B.A. in political science and history from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1995 and a J.D. from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law in 2001. Those degrees set the stage for a steady career in private practice.
Carman began his legal work as an associate at Feingold, Bates & Vogel, LLP in 2001. He moved into senior associate roles over the next decade, joining Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in 2004, then Dennissen, Kranzush, Mahoney & Ewald, S.C. in 2009, and Hennessy & Roach, PC in 2011. Each stop added responsibility and a broader case load, and by 2013 he opened his own practice, the Law Office of Peter J. Carman, S.C., where he serves as lawyer and owner.
Admissions to practice include the State of Wisconsin, the Seventh Circuit, and the Federal Circuit. Those credentials have allowed him to appear in both state and federal proceedings. Over time he has handled matters that required filings and argument in different court settings, drawing on the experience gathered at several Wisconsin firms.
Outside casework, Carman has taken part in professional development through the Wisconsin State Bar. He is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin since 2001 and of the Outagamie County Bar Association since 2004. He also completed the Wisconsin State Bar G. Lane Ware Leadership Academy, a program designed to prepare lawyers for leadership roles in the bar and their communities.
Colleagues and clients who have worked with him most often describe a practitioner who prefers clear, practical legal work to flash. He has spent decades practicing in local firms and running a solo practice. That background has kept him involved in the rhythms of both litigation and client counseling, and in the management tasks that come with running a small firm.
Today, Carman leads the Law Office of Peter J. Carman, S.C., an independent practice he established in 2013. He continues to represent clients in matters in Wisconsin and in the federal courts where he is admitted, and he manages the practice’s day-to-day operations and case work.
