About Mr. Brett Alan
Mr. Brett Alan Smith pursued an extended course of study before entering practice. He earned a B.S. in Journalism from Middle Tennessee State University in 2005. He went on to complete a Master of Public Administration at Tennessee State University in 2009. Smith then received a J.D. from the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law at Faulkner University in 2011 and later added an LL.M. in Business Transactions from the University of Alabama in 2015. Those credentials set a wide academic foundation across reporting, public administration and commercial law.
After law school Mr. Smith moved into private practice and eventually became a partner and owner of Huff Smith Law, LLC. His career has been shaped by roles that require both transactional skill and attention to public-sector concerns. He has maintained licensure in both Alabama and Florida, allowing him to work on matters that cross state lines in the Southeast.
Outside the office he spent four years on a municipal advisory body. From 2014 to 2018 he served on the City of Auburn’s Greenspace Advisory Board. That experience put him into regular contact with local government officials, planning questions and community stakeholders. It also drew on his M.P.A. training and offered practical exposure to zoning, municipal policy and neighborhood engagement.
Smith’s academic path points toward particular areas of practice. The LL.M. in Business Transactions provided focused courses in contracts, mergers and commercial agreements. His J.D. supplies the general legal framework, and the M.P.A. brought courses in public budgets, organizational management and administrative law. Earlier study in journalism continues to influence how he communicates: clear writing and attention to factual record remain hallmarks of his work.
At Huff Smith Law, LLC Mr. Smith handles transactional matters and advises clients on issues that touch both private business and local government. He represents clients in negotiations, prepares commercial agreements and consults on municipal or administrative questions that require an understanding of public process. He is active in handling matters in Alabama and Florida and bases his practice at Huff Smith Law, LLC, where he concentrates on business and municipal-related legal work.
