About Mikal

Mikal Stole began his path to the law after completing an undergraduate degree in English at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1998. He went on to earn his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 2005. Those academic years shaped his approach to legal writing and argument, and they remain a foundation for how he prepares cases and advises clients.

After law school, Stole established a practice in Illinois. He is admitted to the Illinois bar and to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, which permits him to represent clients in both state and federal court. Over time he has applied courtroom experience and motion practice to a range of disputes, often handling matters that require both negotiation and litigation skills.

Stole has been active in local bar and civic life. He has served as Co-Chairperson of the Will County Bar Association and has been the Family Law Committee Co-Chair for the association since 2010. Those roles have kept him engaged with continuing legal education, committee work, and issues affecting practitioners across Will County. He has also served in municipal government; in 2009 he was elected a Village Trustee in Lansing, Illinois, a position that involved local governance and community issues.

Within the community of family law practitioners he is a familiar presence. Serving on a county bar family law committee requires practical problem-solving around custody, support, and property matters, and Stole’s committee work has placed him in regular contact with other attorneys, judges, and court staff who handle those cases. He has worked on efforts aimed at improving procedures and resources for family law litigants and lawyers in the county.

Colleagues describe him as steady in court and attentive to case preparation. He approaches hearings and negotiations in a methodical way. He writes and files pleadings, prepares witnesses, and handles evidentiary hearings when necessary. His ability to move between negotiated resolutions and contested proceedings reflects the demands of family law practice in suburban and judicial circuits.

Stole continues to practice law in Illinois and appears in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He maintains active involvement in the Will County Bar Association and focuses his current practice on family law matters.
