About Michael P.
Michael P. Shlansky built a footprint in both science and law. He began his academic path at Tulane University, where he earned a B.S. in neuroscience. He returned to Tulane for law school, completing a J.D. and later an LL.M. in Admiralty and Maritime Law at Tulane University School of Law. He also holds a certification in Civil Law from the same institution.
Shlansky moved into practice by joining established firms and local offices. Records show him at Burleson, LLP in 2014, followed by a year at Mouledoux, Bland, Legrand & Bracket in 2015. In 2016 he worked with the Law Offices of John J. LaCava. Those early posts gave him courtroom experience and exposure to maritime and civil matters. He later took a position at Sherwood & Garlick, P.C., where he continues to practice.
He is admitted to practice in Louisiana and Connecticut, and he is authorized to appear before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He holds membership in the State Bar of Connecticut, the Connecticut Bar Association, and the Fairfield County Bar Administration. Those affiliations place him inside both state and local legal communities where he regularly interacts with other litigators and judges.
The combination of an LL.M. in admiralty law and a civil law certification informs the work he does. He handles matters that arise under maritime law as well as disputes that touch on civil law traditions. In maritime cases that can mean vessel claims, cargo disputes, or personal injury matters at sea. In civil law work he brings training rooted in the Louisiana legal framework to bear on contract and tort issues.
Colleagues describe Shlansky as methodical in court preparation and precise in briefing. That approach is useful in admiralty matters, where procedural rules and jurisdictional questions are often technical. His practice includes appearances in both state and federal forums, and he has worked on appeals in federal court.
Today he is based at Sherwood & Garlick, P.C., where his caseload continues to include maritime and civil litigation. He is currently practicing maritime and civil litigation.
