About Michael L.
Michael L. Roberts trained at Samford University, where he earned a B.A. in 1974, and then at the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, receiving his J.D. in 1977. Those formative years placed him squarely in Alabama’s legal community at a time of change in civil litigation and trial practice. He entered the profession as the country moved into the late 1970s and has remained active in state and federal courts since.
He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and has federal appellate admissions in both the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits. He also holds admission in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama and in the State of Alabama. Those credentials have supported a career that straddles local and national levels of litigation and dispute resolution.
Roberts has been a member of the Alabama State Bar and the Etowah County Bar Association for many years. He is listed as a current member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association, where he served on the Board of Governors from 1984 to 1987 and then joined the Executive Committee beginning in 1987 and continuing to the present. He served on the board of editors for The Alabama Lawyer from 1991 to 1992. These roles indicate long-term participation in the professional organizations that shape trial practice in Alabama.
Outside courtrooms, he has served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. That work complements courtroom practice and reflects involvement in alternative dispute resolution over a significant span of his career. His combined experience in trials and arbitration gives him familiarity with both contested litigation and negotiated settlements.
He practices law at Cusimano, Roberts & Mills, LLC. At the firm he works alongside other litigators, handling matters that proceed in state and federal venues. His professional activity over decades has kept him engaged in trial practice, bar association governance, and arbitration work.
He maintains a trial and arbitration practice at Cusimano, Roberts & Mills, LLC.
