About Michael D.
Michael D. Litman built his legal foundation in upstate New York. He earned his J.D. from Albany Law School in 2003. That credential set the stage for a career that moved from public defense into private practice.
Early in his career Litman worked as a staff lawyer at the Nassau County Legal Aid Society. There he handled day-to-day criminal matters and represented clients who could not afford private counsel. The experience exposed him to courtroom procedure and client advocacy in a busy, high-volume setting. He later joined the Law Office of Michael H. Joseph as an associate in 2011, expanding his trial experience and handling a broader variety of casework.
In 2014 Litman established his own office. He opened the Law Office of Michael Litman, PLLC and has operated that practice since. The move to private practice allowed him to take on cases in multiple forums. He is admitted in New York and in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, which enables him to appear in both state and federal courts.
Litman maintains memberships in several professional groups. He has belonged to the New York State Bar Association since 2007 and joined the Westchester County Bar Association in 2015. He became a member of the National College of DUI Defense in 2016 and joined the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2019. Those affiliations reflect the kinds of matters his practice addresses and provide continuing education and collegial contacts.
Colleagues and clients encounter a lawyer who has moved steadily through different phases of practice: from public defender work to associate-level responsibilities and then to firm ownership. His caseload has included criminal defense work and matters arising from impaired driving allegations. He handles court appearances, pretrial motions and negotiations on behalf of individuals facing criminal charges. He currently focuses his practice on criminal defense and DUI cases.
