About Robert M.

Robert M. Schechter earned his law degree from Albany Law School in 2012 after completing a Bachelor of Arts at the State University of New York at Albany in 2009. He entered the legal profession at a time when post-recession regulatory and tax issues were prominent on many clients’ agendas. The academic record put him on a path toward federal practice and litigation.

Early in his career Schechter joined Tilem & Associates, PC, working there as a lawyer beginning in 2015. His time at the firm has included representation in matters that reach beyond state courts. He has handled cases that required appearances before federal tribunals and agencies, drawing on his courtroom experience and procedural familiarity.

He is admitted in multiple jurisdictions. Those admissions include New York and the District of Columbia, and he holds the ability to appear before the United States Tax Court. He is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. His active membership in the D.C. Bar is listed as current.

Schechter’s practice has involved federal litigation and tax-related disputes, reflecting the jurisdictions where he appears. He has worked on matters that demand knowledge of federal procedure and the specific rules that govern tax controversies. His role at the firm has included preparing pleadings, managing discovery, and arguing motions in federal venues.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in courtroom preparation and precise in legal writing. He blends attention to procedural detail with the kinds of practical planning that clients often need when cases extend into federal forums. Outside the courtroom he has taken part in the internal case strategy development at his firm and in mentoring younger staff on procedural practice.

He is based at Tilem & Associates, PC and continues to handle matters in federal courts and the U.S. Tax Court. He currently practices at Tilem & Associates, PC, handling tax and federal court matters.
