About Matthew J.

Matthew J. DeFazio earned his law degree from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in 2013 after completing a Bachelor of Science at Marist College in 2010. His academic path combined a liberal arts foundation with three years of professional legal training. Classrooms and clinics at Pace Law exposed him to practical exercises and research projects that shaped his early approach to practicing law.

He entered the legal profession in New York. DeFazio built his practice at Osorio Cachaya Law Offices, PLLC, where he joined colleagues handling matters that arise under state law. He moved from law school study to casework and client meetings. Those first years in practice required him to translate academic training into filings, client interviews and court preparation.

Day-to-day, DeFazio’s work involves advising and representing clients before agencies and in state courts. He guides clients through procedural requirements and prepares pleadings, motions and responses. He also participates in negotiations and settlement discussions when those options are available. Colleagues describe his approach as methodical: he dissects a problem into its elements and addresses each in writing or through advocacy.

Throughout his time at the firm, DeFazio has handled matters that require careful attention to New York statutes and local court rules. He has taken filed matters from intake to resolution, often juggling deadlines and client expectations. The pace of practice has pushed him to refine drafting and research skills. He prefers to build clear records and straightforward legal theories to present on behalf of those he represents.

Clients working with DeFazio can expect direct communication about case status and next steps. He places emphasis on explaining options in plain language so clients can make informed decisions. When litigation is necessary, he prepares matters for hearings and attends court as required. When alternative resolution makes sense, he engages in discussions aimed at resolving disputes without extended litigation.

Outside of casework, DeFazio keeps up with developments in New York law that affect his clients. He regularly reviews legislative changes and recent court decisions to ensure filings reflect current authorities. He is an active member of his firm’s team and contributes to the practice by supporting case strategy and client-service work.

He currently practices at Osorio Cachaya Law Offices, PLLC, representing clients in matters arising under New York law.
