About Michael A.
Michael A. Mastracci earned his undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 1982. He continued his legal education at the University of Baltimore School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1986. His academic path combined an interest in public affairs with formal legal training, preparing him for both courtroom work and alternative dispute resolution.
He began practicing law in the late 1980s. By 1989 he was working at Mastracci and Mastracci PA, where he handled a range of matters that reflected the professional memberships he maintains today. In 2000 he opened the Law Office of Michael A. Mastracci, LLC and took on the title of lawyer and mediator. That move marked a shift toward a practice that blends advocacy and negotiated solutions.
Mastracci’s résumé includes formal mediation credentials. He is a certified mediator and completed a most recent 60-hour training course at The Mediation Center in 2016. He has also been active in collaborative practice circles for many years, participating in organizations that promote negotiated resolutions outside the courtroom. His background shows an attorney comfortable in both adversarial and cooperative settings.
Professional memberships trace a steady pattern. He has been a member of the Maryland Criminal Defense Association since 1989. Beginning in 2000 he joined several collaborative and justice-oriented groups, including the Maryland Association for Justice, the International Association of Collaborative Professionals, and the Maryland Collaborative Law Association. He also holds membership in the Howard County Collaborative Professionals. These affiliations reflect the two strands of his work: traditional criminal defense practice and alternative dispute resolution via collaborative law and mediation.
Mastracci is licensed to practice in Maryland and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. That combination of credentials allows him to handle matters at the state level and in certain federal appellate contexts. Over the years his practice has evolved so that he routinely moves between litigation and dispute resolution services rather than staying in just one lane.
Today he practices from the Law Office of Michael A. Mastracci, LLC, offering legal representation and mediation services to clients in Maryland and in matters that may reach the Fourth Circuit. He currently concentrates his practice on mediation, collaborative law, and criminal defense.
