About Cary
Cary Murray grew up in a generation shaped by rapid legal and technological change. He arrived at law school after completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia in 2005 and earned his J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2008. Those formative years left him with a practical approach to the work of law. He still speaks plainly about legal problems and the people behind them.
After law school, Murray established his practice in Maryland. He is licensed to practice in the state and maintains membership in the Maryland State Bar Association. Over time his career moved from courtroom beginnings into advisory roles. That progression led him to the role he holds today: of counsel at Silverman Thompson. In that capacity he reviews cases, consults on strategy and assists on matters where the firm needs seasoned judgment.
Colleagues describe Murray as someone who prefers clarity over flourish. He prepares concise memoranda and written arguments that aim to cut to the legal issues at stake. His training at Carey Law shows in his command of procedure and briefing. At the same time his undergraduate background from the University of Virginia informs his interest in the intersection of law and public affairs.
Murray’s work has involved both litigation and counseling. He has handled matters that require detailed factual work and others that demand a steady hand in negotiation. He adapts his approach to the needs of each client. When litigation proceeds, he focuses on careful fact development and disciplined advocacy. When matters are better resolved outside the courtroom, he looks for practical solutions that reduce friction and legal expense.
Outside the office he keeps ties to the Maryland legal community through the State Bar Association. He attends section meetings and contributes to discussions on practice issues. He does not seek the spotlight. Instead, he uses those relationships to stay current on developments in Maryland law and on procedural trends that affect his clients.
Murray’s practice is anchored in Maryland law and court practice. As of counsel at Silverman Thompson, he works on matters that arise under Maryland statutes and local rules. His current practice focuses on advising clients and handling legal matters arising under Maryland law.
