About Melody Jo
Melody Jo King studied law at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. She arrived at the Bar shortly before taking on early litigation and family law matters, building a practice style shaped by courtroom work and client counseling. Her grounding in a large public law curriculum informed her approach to case preparation and the practical tasks of running a small practice.
King began practicing in North Carolina after an early stint at The Van Winkle Law Office in 2018. There she handled matters typical of a general litigation practice and gained front-line experience in motion practice and hearings. That early period provided a steady introduction to state court procedure and the rhythms of contested litigation.
Over the following years she shifted toward family law. She now operates Melody J. King Divorce & Family Law, a practice centered on divorce and related domestic relations cases. Her work includes custody and parenting-time disputes, equitable distribution, spousal support questions, and post-judgment enforcement. The practice represents clients in negotiation and in court when cases require a hearing.
King is licensed in both North Carolina and Florida. She maintains professional ties across the region and appears in state court matters in North Carolina where much of her current caseload lies. Those dual jurisdictions give her a practical perspective on how family law can vary from state to state and how procedural differences affect case strategy.
Professional associations are a steady part of King’s calendar. She is active in the North Carolina Bar Association and is a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. She serves as President of the Western North Carolina Division of the North Carolina Association of Women Lawyers. She also participates in the Harry C. Martin Inns of Court, which offers peer programs and mentorship on courtroom practice.
Her time in these groups produces continuing legal education and networking, and it keeps courtroom technique current. Clients see the result in a practice that moves between negotiation and litigation depending on the matter. Court appearances, settlement conferences, parenting workshops and drafting of marital agreements are among the tasks she handles regularly.
King’s office focuses on matters arising from the end of relationships and on the legal arrangements that follow. She manages cases from initial consultation through trial or settlement according to each client’s needs and the demands of the case. Her current practice concentrates on divorce and family law matters.
