About Katherine
Katherine Langley built her legal foundation in the classroom and the law review. She earned a bachelor’s degree in languages from Georgetown University in 1986 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1992. While at Wisconsin, she served as an articles editor for the Wisconsin Law Review, a role that introduced her to legal scholarship and the rigors of appellate research.
Early in her career she entered private practice. In 1992 she joined White & Case Law Office as an associate. A series of moves followed over the next decade: she worked at Van Winkle Law Office beginning in 1995 and at Roth Law Office from 1997. Those years sharpened her courtroom and client-handling skills. She returned to more metropolitan practice settings later, joining The Hart Law Group in 2010.
In 2012 she became a partner at Burt Langley, PC. As a partner she manages cases, mentors junior attorneys and helps shape firm strategy. Her steady progression from entry-level associate to firm partner reflects long-term engagement in litigation and firm operations rather than short-term shifts.
Katherine has been active in North Carolina’s legal community for many years. She holds membership in the North Carolina Bar Association and the 28th Judicial District Bar, both since 1996. In 2014 she served on an advisory capacity for the North Carolina State Bar’s Grievance Committee, a position that placed her inside the system that oversees professional responsibility and practitioner conduct.
Her practice experience spans multiple offices and types of firms, from regional boutique settings to larger firm environments. That variety informs how she manages cases and allocates resources for trial preparation and client communication. Colleagues describe her as pragmatic in strategy and attentive in preparation.
Outside of the office she has continued to follow developments in state practice norms and bar policies. She maintains active membership in the bars noted above and participates in continuing legal education to stay current with procedural and substantive changes in state law.
She practices law in North Carolina and is a partner at Burt Langley, PC. Her current practice focuses on civil litigation matters in state courts.
