About Matthew W.
Matthew W. Fuchs built a straightforward path into law. He finished a B.A. at Allegheny College in 1998 and earned his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law–Camden in 2002. Those years set the shape of a practice that moves between state and federal courtrooms.
He is admitted in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and is also licensed to appear before the U.S. District Court, Western Pennsylvania. That range of admissions has allowed him to handle matters that cross state lines and to address procedural questions at both the trial and federal levels. He has worked on contested matters that require courtroom presence as well as on preparation and strategy outside of hearings.
Fuchs joined MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton and advanced to partner in 2018. The promotion reflected a steady accumulation of cases and responsibilities over time. As a partner he has taken on larger files and assigns staff to move matters forward; he also continues to appear in court himself when a case calls for it.
Colleagues describe him as practical in the courtroom and exacting on process. He places emphasis on clear filings and on deadlines. That approach matters in both state dockets and federal calendars, where procedure can determine the outcome as much as the underlying facts. He spends time preparing witnesses, drafting motions, and arguing at hearings when the situation requires a live presentation.
Outside of litigation, his work includes counseling clients on how to proceed before disputes escalate. He explains options, weighs timing, and outlines potential next steps. The day-to-day of his practice mixes courtroom work, client meetings, and detailed document preparation. He adapts to the demands of each file rather than imposing a single method on every case.
Over the years he has combined an academic background from Allegheny and Rutgers with steady courtroom work and firm-based responsibilities. That combination informs how he assesses risk and structures cases. He currently serves as a partner at MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton and handles matters in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the U.S. District Court, Western Pennsylvania.
