About Andra
Andra Waniek approaches litigation the way some people approach complicated puzzles: by breaking problems into pieces and testing each hypothesis until a clear path appears. She arrived at law after an undergraduate degree from Yale University and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. Those classrooms shaped how she thinks about facts and law, and how she reads opposing arguments for what they are.
Her professional path has been centered at MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton, where she serves as an associate. In that role she has worked across multiple practice groups inside the firm. Early assignments involved research and drafting for civil matters. Over time she took on more responsibility in discovery, brief writing and client counseling. She also appears in federal court, handling filings and appearances in both the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Waniek is admitted to practice in New York and in the two federal districts that cover the city. That admission enables her to carry cases from state trial court through federal litigation when jurisdictional questions arise. Her courtroom work has included hearings and motion practice. In chambers and at depositions, she emphasizes preparation. She tries to anticipate the issues judges will want to resolve and the evidence opponents will deploy.
Within the firm she is a member of three practice groups: Commercial/General Litigation, Insurance/Personal Injury, and Government Services. Those memberships reflect the variety of matters she handles. In commercial and general litigation she works on contract disputes and business tort claims. In insurance and personal injury matters she assists in case development and defense strategies. In government services matters she participates in matters that require understanding both legal rules and regulatory frameworks. The cross-practice exposure lets her draw connections between different fields of law the way a practitioner might trace a single fact to multiple legal consequences.
Colleagues describe her as methodical in preparing pleadings and practical at the negotiating table. Clients see someone who explains options plainly and outlines likely outcomes without overpromising. She balances paper work and courtroom presence, moving cases through the steps needed to test liability and damages.
She continues to practice at MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton, handling matters in New York state and federal courts and working across the firm’s Commercial/General Litigation, Insurance/Personal Injury, and Government Services practice groups.
