About Matthew

Matthew Martin earned his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law in 2003 after completing an undergraduate degree in entrepreneurship at the University of Saint Thomas in 1999. He returned to the University of Minnesota — Twin Cities to complete a Master of Business Taxation in 2006. That combination of practical business study and legal training shapes how he approaches cases.

Martin began practicing at Martin Law Offices in 2006. He is admitted to the Minnesota bar and to practice before the Eighth Circuit, which allows him to handle both state and certain federal matters. Over the years he has handled a range of criminal defense work and has taken on cases that touch on financial and tax-related issues, drawing on his graduate training when those elements arise.

Since 2009 Martin has held memberships in several professional organizations. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Minnesota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also belongs to the Hennepin County and Ramsey County bar associations. Those affiliations keep him connected to peers across the state and to developments in criminal practice.

Alongside his practice, Martin has maintained a steady record of pro bono and volunteer service. He has volunteered with Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services and with Wills for Heroes since 2009. That work has included drafting basic estate documents and providing legal assistance to underserved community members and first responders.

His background in business taxation has been a practical asset when matters involve financial records, business structures, or tax questions. He is comfortable reviewing complex documents and coordinating with accountants or other specialists when cases warrant. His courtroom work spans arraignments, pretrial motions, and trial practice, and his admission to the Eighth Circuit permits involvement in certain federal appellate proceedings.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing cases and attentive to procedural detail. He balances courtroom advocacy with client counseling, often explaining technical financial points in plain terms so clients can make informed decisions. He has kept his practice focused in the same firm he joined in 2006.

He currently practices at Martin Law Offices, PLLC, handling criminal defense matters and related legal issues.
