About Matthew L.
Matthew L. Holden built a legal path that moves from big-firm corridors to in-house office suites and finally to the smaller firm he leads today. He earned a B.B.A. from Emory University's Goizueta School of Business in 2001 and a J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 2006, where he took part in the Real Estate & Trust Law Society. Those credentials shaped the start of a career split between corporate settings and private practice.
Fresh out of law school he joined Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP as an associate. He spent his early years at that firm handling matters typical of a national practice, then moved into an in-house role in 2008. At Ospraie Management LLC he served as Associate General Counsel, providing legal support inside an investment management environment and handling the kinds of day-to-day and transactional issues that come with running a firm.
In 2009 he became the managing member of Holden Legal Group LLC. That move returned him to private practice and put him in charge of a small firm serving clients in New York and New Jersey. He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and is also admitted in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, enabling appearances in federal court when matters require it.
Holden maintains active bar association ties. He holds memberships in the New York State Bar Association and the New Jersey Bar Association. He is also a member of the Bergen County Bar Association and of the Real Property Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. Those affiliations reflect ongoing professional engagement across the jurisdictions where he practices.
Colleagues and clients see a practitioner shaped by three different legal environments: a national law firm, an in-house legal department, and a boutique firm. That variety shows in his handling of procedural and contractual work and in the way he sets priorities for client matters. He practices from Holden Legal Group LLC and manages the firm's work across state and federal venues in New York and New Jersey. His current practice focuses on legal matters arising in those jurisdictions.
