About Matthew E.

Matthew E. Price followed a long academic journey before settling into litigation. He earned an AB from Harvard in 1997, completed a Ph.D. at Harvard in 2005, and then returned to Harvard Law School for a J.D. in 2006. The sequence of degrees reflects a period of extended study that preceded his entry into the legal profession.

His early legal training came in the federal appellate and Supreme Court chambers. After law school, he served as a law clerk to Judge Michael Boudin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in 2006. He later returned to clerkship in 2008 at the highest level, clerking for Justice Stephen Breyer on the U.S. Supreme Court. Those positions exposed him to complex appellate work and to the practice of judging at two different tiers of the federal judiciary.

In 2009 he joined Jenner & Block as a lawyer. That move brought him into private practice at a national firm where he has spent the bulk of his career. His record shows sustained involvement in matters that reach federal courts and appeals courts. Over time he has handled litigation that implicates both trial and appellate procedures.

He is admitted in multiple jurisdictions. His memberships include the Massachusetts bar, held since 2007, and the District of Columbia bar, held since 2010. He also maintains admissions to federal courts including the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. His appellate admissions list the First and Second Circuits as well as the Federal Circuit.

Outside formal admissions, his clerkships and subsequent firm work have kept him connected to appellate practice norms and federal litigation strategy. Those experiences inform how he approaches briefing, oral argument preparation, and case management in multijurisdictional matters. He has worked on matters that require coordination between district courts and courts of appeals, and he is familiar with the procedural landscape that governs such work.

He is a member of the Massachusetts State Bar and the District of Columbia Bar and has remained active in both since his admissions. At Jenner & Block he continues to handle litigation and appeals on behalf of clients in federal and state courts. He currently practices at Jenner & Block, where he represents clients in federal and state litigation and appellate matters.
