About Matthew Blane
Matthew Blane Wheeley entered law after earning his J.D. from the University of Florida in 1981. He built a career entirely within Florida, moving through roles at a variety of private firms and partnerships over several decades. His path shows steady progression from associate-level positions to firm leadership and senior lawyer roles.
Wheeley’s early years in practice included work at Alpert, Josey, Grilli & Freeman in 1988. By 1991 he was a partner at Barbas Nunez Koenig Wheeley, a role that tied him to local practice and the management side of a law firm. That partnership period lasted into the mid-2000s and helped shape his approach to handling client matters and mentoring younger attorneys.
In 2005 Wheeley moved into a partner position at Fowler White Boggs Banker. He spent time at larger firm platforms and then, in 2011, took a partner role at Morgan & Morgan. Those years brought exposure to different firm structures and client bases, from regional to national operations, and to the organizational side of running legal practices.
By 2017 Wheeley joined Carlson, Meissner, Hayslett P.A. as a lawyer. The move marked another shift in his long career of private practice within Florida. It also reflected a recurring pattern: periods of firm leadership alternating with positions focused on client work and case management.
Throughout his career Wheeley has maintained professional memberships and ties to the Florida legal community. Colleagues describe him as a steady presence in firm settings, someone who has navigated both partnership responsibilities and the demands of day-to-day legal work. He has worked across multiple offices and practice environments, which gave him a broad view of how firms operate inside the state.
Today Wheeley practices at Carlson, Meissner, Hayslett P.A., continuing to serve clients in Florida. His recent years reflect ongoing involvement in private practice and the practical work of serving client needs within the state.
