About Matt
Matt Gilbert is an attorney licensed to practice in Minnesota. He built his academic foundation at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law. Those degrees anchor his work and shape how he approaches legal questions.
During law school Gilbert combined classroom work with practical experience. He studied core areas of law at William Mitchell and applied economic reasoning from his undergraduate studies to legal problems. That combination of law and economics informs how he assesses cases, evaluates risk and frames advice.
After earning his J.D., Gilbert entered practice in Minnesota. He has worked in the state’s legal community, representing clients and appearing before tribunals where appropriate. Colleagues describe him as methodical; he tends to break complex matters into discrete issues and explain them in plain language for clients who do not live inside legal jargon.
Gilbert’s background in economics influences his approach to legal work. He pays attention to the numbers that sit beneath many disputes and contracts. That means he often focuses on factual patterns and documentation early in a matter, testing assumptions before recommending a course of action. He handles negotiations, document review and courtroom appearances as the situation requires, depending on what a client’s matter calls for.
Outside the office he keeps ties to the Twin Cities legal scene and the broader Minnesota bar. He stays current on state rules and local procedures so he can advise clients about timing and process as well as substance. He currently practices in Minnesota, where he handles a range of matters for individuals and businesses.
