About Martin
Martin Barnes began his legal path in the early 1990s, entering Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1991 and earning his J.D. in 1995. The years at McKinney shaped his understanding of litigation and federal procedure. He arrived at the bar at a moment when the contours of federal practice were evolving, and he carried that timing into his own work.
After law school Barnes established a practice grounded in Indiana. He is admitted to practice in Indiana and also holds admission to the Federal Circuit. Those credentials allow him to appear in state courts and to bring matters before a national appellate forum. He built his practice around that dual eligibility, handling filings and arguments that move between state and federal systems.
Barnes has maintained ties to the legal community through local professional groups. He is a member of the Indiana Bar Association and the Indianapolis Bar Association. He attends meetings and keeps current on developments that affect trial and appellate work. Those memberships have provided continuing education and a network of peers over a multi-decade career.
His office is on the second floor of the Wiley Building. The location serves as the base for client meetings and case preparation. Colleagues and clients see the office as a practical place for document review and strategy sessions. The space reflects a steady, client-focused practice rather than a large firm footprint.
Across his career Barnes has balanced filings in trial courts with appellate matters. He has worked on cases where procedural precision mattered, and on matters that required careful briefing to meet appellate standards. He is comfortable preparing court documents and attending hearings at various levels of the judicial system.
He keeps a measured approach to casework. Clients encounter an attorney experienced in courtroom procedure and federal appellate rules. He combines that experience with long-standing membership in Indiana’s bar organizations.
Today Barnes continues to work out of the Wiley Building location, serving clients in matters that arise in Indiana state courts and in proceedings before the Federal Circuit. He handles matters in Indiana state courts and before the Federal Circuit.
