Lee W Davis trained first as a paralegal and then as an attorney. He grew up in the day-to-day of civil litigation support work, a background that shaped his early view of law practice. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1988 and completed a Juris Doctor at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 1996.
His legal career began on the support side. In 1988 he worked as a litigation paralegal at Henderson & Goldberg, P.C., handling document preparation and case organization.
