About Kelsey
Kelsey Black came to law after a traditional path through college and law school. She earned a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2003 and completed her J.D. at Suffolk University Law School in 2007. Those years set the framework for a steady climb through private practice.
She began her legal career in 2008 as an associate at Flynn Wirkus. The position placed her on day-to-day client work and developed her capacity to handle filings, hearings and negotiations. In 2010 she moved to Sedgwick Detert Moran & Arnold LLP. That stint broadened her exposure to the demands of a larger firm environment and the coordination such work requires.
In 2013 she became a shareholder at Waterway Black P.A. Her title reflects the firm’s partnership structure and her role in its management. As a shareholder she has taken on responsibilities that go beyond casework. Those duties include supervising junior lawyers and participating in firm decision-making. She also continues to handle client matters personally and to appear where needed in state forums.
Black is admitted in two jurisdictions. She has been a member of the Massachusetts bar since 2007 and joined the Florida bar in 2010. She maintains active membership in both state bars. That dual admission shapes how she accepts and manages matters, and it requires attention to differing procedural and substantive rules.
Colleagues describe her style as practical and methodical. She tends to break complex problems into discrete steps and to press for clear milestones. Her file management reflects that approach. She favors early case assessment and regular client communication. She also mentors newer attorneys at her firm and participates in internal training efforts.
Outside of courtrooms and firm meetings, Black’s history shows steady professional progression. She has moved from associate roles into firm leadership roles over the course of a decade and a half. She has worked in both smaller firm settings and larger national platforms. That range of experience informs how she handles conflicts, staffing and case strategy.
She practices from Waterway Black P.A. and continues to manage matters that involve both Florida and Massachusetts law. Her current practice focuses on matters arising under Florida and Massachusetts law.
