About Joshua E.
Joshua E. Stern studied economics as an undergraduate and then turned to law. He earned a B.S. in Economics from DePaul University in 2006 and a J.D. from Emory University School of Law in 2010. Those years shaped his approach to practice: analytical and practical, attentive to detail and to the realities clients face.
After law school Stern built his practice in Illinois. He is admitted to practice in the state and has maintained an active presence in its legal community. He holds membership in the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association. He also participates in local business groups, including memberships in the Evanston Chamber of Commerce and the Skokie Chamber of Commerce.
Stern’s civic activities extend beyond professional associations. Since 2018 he has served on the board of The Lilac Tree. That engagement runs alongside his work for clients and reflects an interest in local institutions and their governance. He attends chamber events in Evanston and Skokie and makes time for bar association programming in Chicago.
He operates out of offices in Evanston, Chicago and Lake Forest. Those locations give him a footprint across the northern suburbs and the city. He meets clients in person and handles matters that arise across municipal and county lines. Colleagues describe him as methodical; he prefers putting a case together carefully and communicating plainly about options and risks.
Over the course of his career he has balanced courtroom appearances, negotiations and client counseling. He has steered files from early intake through resolution, whether by settlement or other disposition. He places emphasis on thorough preparation. That approach shows in the way he organizes factual and legal work before hearings and meetings.
Outside of the office he remains active in community and professional circles, attending events hosted by chambers of commerce and participating in bar association activities. He has matched his practice work with ongoing involvement at The Lilac Tree, where he has been a board member since 2018. His current practice concentrates on serving clients in Illinois across a range of legal matters.
