About Aaron D.
Aaron D. Quinby took an uncommon route to law school. He earned dual bachelor’s degrees in finance and real estate from the University of Northern Iowa in 2012. Three years later he graduated from William Mitchell College of Law with a J.D., then moved quickly into legal work in Minnesota.
His first legal position came immediately after law school. In 2015 he served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Sheridan Hawley in Minnesota’s Tenth Judicial District. The clerkship gave him daily exposure to courtroom procedure, motion practice and written opinions. It also offered an early look at how judges weigh factual records and legal argument.
Quinby entered private practice in 2017 when he joined Somsen, Mueller & Franta PA as an associate. At that firm he worked on a variety of matters that relied on his undergraduate training in finance and real estate. He also began building a practice that touched estate planning and transactional work, aided by his decision to join WealthCounsel the same year.
In 2020 Quinby moved to Fredrikson & Byron P.A., where he continues to practice. His membership in the Minnesota State Bar dates to 2015 and remains active. Colleagues describe him as methodical in case preparation and attentive to document details. He has combined courtroom experience from his clerkship with transactional work in private practice.
Quinby’s background in finance and real estate informs his work. That academic foundation shapes how he analyzes client objectives and structures documents. His time at the courthouse reinforced the importance of clear writing and careful precedent analysis. He maintains membership in professional groups and attends continuing education programs common to estate and transactional attorneys.
He lives and practices in Minnesota. His career path — from a dual undergraduate degree to a law clerkship and then to roles at two law firms — reflects steady movement into commercial, real estate and estate-related legal work. He currently practices at Fredrikson & Byron P.A., where his work centers on estate planning and real estate matters.
