About Joseph John
Joseph John Russell built a legal path that moves from appellate chambers to a long tenure in private practice. He earned a B.A. in communications and business from Villanova University in 2001 and took his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2004. Early in his career he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert A. Fall, J.A.D., in the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division in 2001.
Russell joined Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A. and became a shareholder and partner in 2006. That step marked the start of a multi-decade association with the firm. He maintains admissions to practice in both New Jersey and New York and has handled matters that span courtroom proceedings, settlement conferences, and appellate work.
Over the years Russell has taken on roles outside the firm that reflect a steady interest in family law procedures and dispute resolution. He has served on the executive committee of the Ocean County Bar Association Family Law section since 2007. He has been an executive member of the Monmouth County Family Law Executive Committee and a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Family Law Executive Committee since 2013. In the same year he began serving as a panelist on Middlesex County’s Early Settlement Panel and as an intensive settlement conference panelist in Monmouth County. He joined the board of the Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus Foundation in 2015.
Those positions have placed Russell in roles where settlement mechanics and procedural practice are central. Colleagues and court administrators have drawn on his experience as an early settlement and intensive settlement panelist to help shape individual case resolution processes. The appellate clerkship early in his career also gave him familiarity with the written record and appellate standards.
At the firm he has worked on family law matters and related court procedures, combining courtroom experience and alternative dispute resolution work. He routinely appears before county family divisions and takes part in settlement and conference panels across the region. He is active in bar association activities that address family law practice and court procedures.
Outside of committee and panel responsibilities he participates in community and hospital foundation work tied to Monmouth County. He continues to practice at Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A., where his work centers on family law, settlements, and court advocacy.
