About Jonathan Theron
Jonathan Theron Shelton trained in two Philadelphia-area law schools before setting up his own practice. He earned a J.D. degree from Widener University Delaware School of Law in 2016 and completed an LL.M. at Temple University in 2017. The consecutive degrees tightened his exposure to both traditional doctrinal coursework and the kind of advanced study LL.M. programs emphasize.
After finishing his LL.M., Shelton entered private practice. He has worked as a solo practitioner since 2017 at The Shelton Firm. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, where he established his office and developed a small, client-centered practice model. Running a solo practice required him to take on many roles: lawyer, manager and client contact.
Shelton’s day-to-day work has involved counseling individuals and small businesses on legal choices and, when necessary, representing them in proceedings. He handles case preparation, legal research, drafting and courtroom appearances. Over time he built a caseload that reflects the demands of practicing alone in a mid-Atlantic jurisdiction: a mix of contested matters and transactional work that keeps him engaged with the courts and community.
His LL.M. year at Temple broadened how he approaches legal problems. The additional study afforded more time to dig into advanced topics and to refine written analysis. That postgraduate year followed a traditional three-year J.D. program and helped him move into practice with an extra layer of academic preparation.
As a solo practitioner Shelton manages intake, client counseling and litigation strategy on his own. He has had to balance client needs with the practical realities of running a small firm. That experience shapes how he communicates with clients and plans cases. Colleagues and former classmates recall him as methodical in legal writing and steady under pressure, qualities that fit the demands of solo practice.
He remains based in Pennsylvania and continues to accept matters there. His practice today centers on advising clients and representing them in state-level matters, combining courtroom work and client advice in a compact practice structure.
