About Jonathan
Jonathan Corchnoy graduated from Allegheny College in 1978 with a B.S. in economics and earned his J.D. from American University Washington College of Law in 1981. The trajectory of his early career followed the familiar path of federal clerkships and small firm practice. He spent two summers in federal agencies, clerking for the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition in 1979 and for the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division in 1980, before moving into law office practice after law school.
His first postlaw-school position was in 1981 at the office of the Honorable David Cohen, who served as a councilman-at-large in Philadelphia. That experience led to subsequent roles in private practice, including work at the Law Office of Jerome Taylor in 1985. He began serving as a Court of Common Pleas arbitrator in Philadelphia in 1982, a role he has maintained alongside other practice responsibilities. In 2002 he opened his own firm, Law Offices of Jonathan S. Corchnoy, and in 2008 he took on a federal arbitrator appointment for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Corchnoy’s admissions span multiple jurisdictions. He is admitted in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, holds admission to practice before the Third Circuit, and is admitted in Florida. Over the years he has moved between state and federal work and between trial and administrative matters. His membership list reflects sustained involvement in legal circles: Philadelphia Bar Association since 1981, Pennsylvania State Bar work on an Exceptional Children’s Committee beginning in 2002, the New Jersey State Bar’s School Law Committee starting in 2008, and membership in the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA) from 2009 onward. He also holds membership in the Florida Bar beginning in 2015.
His practice balances arbitration, administrative advocacy and counsel to families and institutions in education-related matters. He has handled disputes that arise in school settings and matters concerning special education, and he appears in both local courts and relevant administrative forums. He maintains offices in Philadelphia and in Florida, operating through his named law firm.
After more than four decades in the law, Corchnoy continues to accept matters that touch on education, arbitration and related civil practice, and he practices primarily through the Law Offices of Jonathan S. Corchnoy.
