About John
John Dell'Aquilo earned his law degree from Rutgers Law School in 1990 after completing a bachelor’s degree at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in 1978. He built a career that moves between courtroom work, law enforcement and the classroom. The mix of roles gives him a practical perspective on criminal cases and on issues that arise at the intersection of procedure and science.
Early in his professional life he served as Deputy Lawyer General in the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice. That role placed him on the prosecutorial side of serious matters and exposed him to complex investigations. He later joined law enforcement directly as a lieutenant with the Cherry Hill Police Department, where he combined supervisory responsibilities with on-the-ground policing.
He has also spent significant time in legal education. He taught law and criminal justice as an adjunct professor at Rowan University and at Camden County College. Students encountered him in courses that drew on his experience in both prosecution and policing. The classroom work runs alongside his practice rather than replacing it.
On the private side, he is Of Counsel at Helmer, Conley & Kasselman, PA. In that capacity he has handled criminal defense matters, including cases involving impaired driving and chemical testing issues. His credentials include training and certifications that speak to those subjects. He is a certified Standard Field Sobriety Testing Program Assessor through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. He is also qualified as an operator trainer and maintenance technician for the Draeger Alcotest 7110 MKIII-C device.
Those credentials align with memberships he maintains in professional organizations. He holds current bar memberships in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and is also a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court. He belongs to the National College for DUI Defense and the International Association of Chemical Testers.
Practicing across multiple offices in the state, he carries both prosecutorial and defense experience into hearings and trials. He has handled matters that require familiarity with chemical testing procedures and with courtroom presentation of technical evidence. His background in law enforcement gives him practical insight into how investigations and arrests are conducted.
He continues to practice law while teaching and serving in a consultative role at his firm. His current practice centers on DUI and criminal defense matters.
