About John C.
John C. Nelson earned his law degree from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 2008, completing coursework in litigation. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Canisius College, awarded in 2001. Those academic years set the framework for a practice that bridges courtroom work and community involvement.
After law school Nelson moved into a sequence of early legal positions that gave him courtroom exposure and teaching experience. In 2010 he served as an extern law clerk at the DeKalb County Superior Court and joined Ward & Kutzuba as an associate. That same year he took on a role as an adjunct professor at Genesee Community College, teaching while building practice experience. He later became an associate at The Trbovich Law Office in 2012.
In 2013 Nelson opened his own firm, operating as the owner and managing lawyer at the Law Office of John C. Nelson. Running a small firm has required him to handle case intake, client counseling, motion practice and trial preparation. He has balanced those responsibilities with active participation in local bar groups and community boards.
Nelson’s association list is broad and sustained. He has been involved with the Wyoming County Bar Association since 2010 and has served as its vice president beginning in 2013. He is a member of the Cattaraugus County and Erie County bar associations. On a statewide level he has been engaged with the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates, serving as a delegate in 2011 and later as an alternate delegate from 2012 onward. He also belongs to the National College for DUI Defense, a membership that signals involvement in DUI-related criminal defense. His community roles include the Arcade Lions Club, a seat on the Curriers Rural Cemetery Board of Directors, and participation on the Wildflower Condo Association board.
Nelson practices in New York and has structured his work around litigation and criminal defense matters, drawing on his litigation training from law school. He handles courtroom work as well as brief and motion drafting. Colleagues and clients find that he combines the procedural demands of trial practice with attention to local court rules and bar governance.
He continues to teach occasionally and to serve on boards while maintaining his private practice. His current practice handles DUI defense, criminal cases and related civil litigation matters.
