About John
John Adams is an attorney licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia. He earned a B.S. from Towson University in 1978 and completed his J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1982. Those formative years established the academic foundation he would rely on throughout a long career in criminal law.
He entered public service shortly after law school. In 1983 he served as an assistant state lawyer at the State's Lawyer's Office. That early work placed him in routine contact with courtroom procedure and case preparation. It also exposed him to the pressures that arise when public safety and individual liberty intersect.
In 1999 he took the step of founding Adams Law Office, Chtd., and remains its president and owner. He has run that office for decades, guiding cases from initial charge through trial or resolution. Over time his practice expanded to include a steady docket of criminal defense matters, and the firm developed a reputation for handling contested hearings and jury trials.
Adams maintains memberships in several professional organizations that reflect his practice areas. He is a member of the Maryland Criminal Defense Association and the National Association for Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also belongs to the National College for DUI Defense and is listed with the Top100 National Trial Lawyers. Those affiliations have kept him engaged with peers and current developments in criminal and DUI defense work.
Courtroom work occupies a large part of his professional life. He has handled contested matters at both the trial and pretrial stages. His work often involves legal research, witness preparation, and advocacy in hearings that can shape a client’s future. He is known for a methodical approach to evidence and procedure, and for preparing cases to be tried when that is the best option for a client.
Outside the courtroom he manages the firm’s operations and client intake. Running a small firm requires balancing administrative tasks with casework, and that has been a constant element of his practice since 1999. Today he continues to represent clients charged with criminal offenses, including DUI matters, and to take cases to trial when necessary. His current practice focuses on criminal defense and DUI representation.
