About Jen
Jen Smock earned a Bachelor of Science in political science and sociology from the University of Utah in 2002. She went on to attend Michigan State University College of Law, receiving her J.D. in 2007. Those academic years framed a shift from social science into the practice of law.
After law school Smock established herself in Utah. She is admitted to practice in that state and built a practice that addresses personal financial disputes and consumer protections. Records show she founded Smock Law PLLC in 2011 and has operated the firm since then. The decision to open her own firm followed several years working in practice areas that prepared her for client-facing bankruptcy work.
At Smock Law PLLC she represents individuals navigating bankruptcy and related consumer financial matters. Her work typically involves advising debtors on chapter options, preparing filings, and guiding clients through the procedural requirements of the bankruptcy court. She also handles nonbankruptcy consumer issues that intersect with personal insolvency, including creditor negotiations and relief strategies aimed at restoring financial stability.
Outside the office Smock takes on volunteer work. She volunteers with the Greater Salt Lake Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, contributing to community relief and preparedness projects. She is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers, which connects attorneys who represent people in consumer bankruptcy matters. Those roles keep her plugged into both community service and the professional conversations shaping consumer bankruptcy practice.
Colleagues describe her approach as pragmatic. She emphasizes clear communication and steady guidance through complex and often stressful legal processes. Clients encounter practical counsel aimed at resolving immediate financial pressures while working toward longer-term stability. Smock continues to lead Smock Law PLLC and focuses her practice on consumer bankruptcy and related consumer financial matters.
