Mr. Wakefield earned his Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1995. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1992. During his time at Santa Clara University, he graduated cum laude, and at UC Santa Barbara, he graduated with highest honors and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
Mr. Wakefield concentrates his practice in the areas of intellectual property litigation, business litigation, and consumer law. He represents clients in matters involving complex commercial disputes, including technology performance litigation and trademark enforcement. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Wakefield has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of San Francisco, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to joining Fenwick & West, he worked as an associate at a mid-size litigation firm in San Francisco for five years.
Mr. Wakefield is an active member of the California State Bar Association. He has been recognized by Super Lawyers, being selected for inclusion from 2004 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2021. He is also recognized in the World Trademark Review 1000 for his expertise in trademark litigation. Mr. Wakefield is fluent in English and has a working knowledge of Spanish, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
