About Jay

Jay Carey graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1993 with a degree in economics and earned his J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis in 1997. He completed his formal legal training at a time when the profession was adjusting to new technology and changing client expectations. Those early years shaped how he approaches casework: methodical, attentive to detail and practical in outcome.

After law school, Carey entered private practice. He joined Briggs and Morgan, P.A. as an associate in 2000. At that firm he worked in a team environment handling matters for a variety of clients. The experience exposed him to the mechanics of a regional law practice and the administrative realities that come with larger client loads.

In 2006 he established Carey Law Office, LLC. Over the years he has run the office and provided direct counsel to clients who seek personal attention from their lawyer. Running a small firm has meant balancing casework with the day-to-day management of a practice. He has served as the primary point of contact for clients and overseen filing, negotiation and court-related tasks that a solo or small-firm lawyer commonly handles.

Carey is licensed to practice in Minnesota. His professional path includes time inside a larger firm and years as the principal lawyer of his own office. That combination has given him perspective on both collaborative and solo practice settings. He has represented clients in matters that require legal drafting, client counseling and interactions with courts and opposing counsel.

Colleagues and clients have noted his straightforward approach to problem solving. He tends to prioritize clear communication and practical options over technical jargon. In client meetings he aims to explain next steps and likely outcomes so people can make informed decisions. That approach has informed how he manages cases and how he organizes the work of his office.

Carey continues to operate Carey Law Office, LLC, serving clients in Minnesota. His current practice focuses on representing clients in Minnesota through the Carey Law Office, LLC.
