About Jason

Jason Aycoth is a criminal defense attorney who trained at Elon University and North Carolina State University. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders and completed pre-med studies at North Carolina State in 2001. He later attended Elon University School of Law and received his J.D. in 2009.

Aycoth moved into criminal practice soon after law school. He is admitted to practice in North Carolina and in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. In 2013 he became a partner at Garrett, Walker, Aycoth & Olson, Lawyers at Law. His partnership followed several years of courtroom work that included trial preparation and appellate filings.

Professional associations have been a steady part of his career. He has served as president of the Elon Law School Alumni Association from 2011 to 2014 and held the presidency of the Greensboro Criminal Defense Lawyers Association in 2013. He also edited The True Bill, the newsletter of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section, from 2012 to 2013. He remains a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and holds an NC Pro Bono Certificate from the state bar.

Aycoth’s practice centers on criminal defense. He handles a mix of DWI cases, misdemeanor and felony charges, and matters that require appeals in federal and state courts. His work includes courtroom advocacy, case investigation, client counseling, and briefing on appellate issues. Colleagues and clients have noted his steady courtroom demeanor and his attention to procedural detail.

He balances casework with bar and alumni responsibilities. That balance has kept him involved in local professional networks and in the development of resources for criminal practitioners. His years editing a criminal justice newsletter and leading local bar groups have tied his practice to broader conversations about criminal law practice in North Carolina.

Today Aycoth practices at Garrett, Walker, Aycoth & Olson, Lawyers at Law, where he continues to represent individuals charged with criminal offenses and to handle DWI matters. His current work focuses on defending clients in state and federal courts and on guiding those clients through trial and appellate stages of criminal cases.
