About J. Michelle
J. Michelle Alcon built her path to the law through two North Carolina schools. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2005. Four years later she received her J.D. from Elon University School of Law in 2009. Those degrees mark the formal start of a career rooted in this state.
After law school, Alcon remained in North Carolina and took up work as a lawyer. Her practice has been centered on family matters, and she is listed as a lawyer at Woodruff Family Law Group. Colleagues say she approaches cases with attention to detail and a preference for clear, plainspoken communication. Clients report that she explains options directly and prepares them for each step of the process.
Her background in communication studies informs how she manages client interactions. That training shows up in careful listening and in courtroom presentation. She balances advocacy with an understanding of how people absorb difficult information. Those skills are useful in custody hearings, settlement conferences and negotiations.
As a practitioner in North Carolina, Alcon works within the state’s family law framework. She handles typical family law matters, which can include divorce, child custody, support issues and related orders. She represents individuals at hearings, drafts pleadings and negotiates agreements. Her practice combines client-facing work with the procedural tasks that keep cases moving through the courts.
Within the office at Woodruff Family Law Group, Alcon is part of a team that manages a range of family law files. The firm environment allows collaboration on complex matters. She coordinates with co-counsel and outside professionals when cases require valuation, investigation or therapeutic input. That collaborative approach is a practical response to the variety of situations family law produces.
Beyond courtroom appearances and negotiation, Alcon spends time preparing clients for the realities of litigation and settlement. She focuses on explaining timelines, likely outcomes and the paperwork necessary to advance a case. Her work is steady and methodical, framed by the local rules and practices of North Carolina courts.
She currently practices family law at Woodruff Family Law Group.
