About James
James Spiros earned a B.A. from Purdue University and went on to law school at The John Marshall Law School, completing his J.D. in 1994. He moved from the Midwest college town to the courtroom, carrying a practical approach to litigation that has shaped his career.
He began practicing in Vermilion County in 1994, entering a private practice where he served as an associate and later as a partner. That early stretch established his footing in local courts and community legal work. In 2005 he became a partner at Spiros Law, P.C., the firm where he continues to practice. The shift to running a firm offered a different set of responsibilities. He balanced trial work with managing client relationships and guiding younger lawyers.
Spiros holds a license to practice law in Illinois and maintains memberships in several bar organizations. He is an active member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Vermilion County Bar Association and the Kankakee County Bar Association. He also belongs to national and specialty groups, including the American Association for Justice and the American Trial Lawyers Association.
His professional involvement extends beyond membership. He has served on the Board of Managers for the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association since 2008 and on the American Trial Lawyers Association Board of Managers from the same year. His long-term service on the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association Medical Negligence Committee dates back to 1997, indicating sustained engagement with medical negligence issues over decades.
Colleagues describe Spiros as a courtroom lawyer who prefers hands-on litigation. He has spent much of his career preparing cases for trial and briefing complex legal issues in state courts. His association work signals a particular interest in civil trial advocacy and medical negligence matters, areas that require attention to expert testimony and procedural detail.
Outside the trial calendar, Spiros has helped shape local bar activities and professional programming through committee work and association leadership. He has worked alongside other trial lawyers to address practice issues that affect plaintiffs’ counsel and civil litigation generally.
He currently concentrates his practice on civil trial work and medical negligence litigation.
